Cherelles

March 3, 2013

CherellesBegun in 2010 when two ladies formed a duet to sing Louis Armstrong’s signature tune, What a Wonderful World, The Cherelles has grown into an ensemble of nine female voices that perform an eclectic mix of popular tunes from Broadway shows and Hollywood movies, as well as Folk, Rock and pop standards.

The group sings for the benefit of the Linwood Center, a leader in providing programs and services for children and adults living with autism and related disabilities. In a time when one in 88 children in our country lives with autism and the need for services and support has exploded, the Cherelles are proud that their efforts are helping to create the possibility of extraordinary lives for these families.

Linwood’s Annual Golf Tournament A Huge Success!

August 1, 2012

On September 10 Linwood Center hosted the 31st Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Cattail Creek Country Club. 96 golfers enjoyed a picture perfect day that started with a buffet breakfast and ended with a dinner at Stella Notte restaurant in Ellicott City, following the round of golf.  Proceeds from the event help support Linwood’s work with individuals on the autism spectrum through the school and adult services programs. Our sincere thanks to the charity golf committee, volunteers, golfers and Linwood staff who made this event a huge success! To view this year’s golf tournament photo gallery, click here.

We are saddened by the unexpected death of our co-chair, Alex Berzins. Shortly after the golf tournament, Alex took ill and did not recover. Our heart goes out to Belinda, Melissa, David, Alexander and the rest of the family.

ShowTime Singers

December 23, 2010

Candids of the ShowTime Singers during their May 22, 2011 showThe ShowTime Singers was founded in January of 2003. We are dedicated to staging high quality musical performances for the community at large, enjoying both a cappella and accompanied singing, while specializing in songs that audiences can easily relate to–and perhaps even sing along with–like Broadway tunes, standards, patriotic music, and even a little rock and roll! We are a mixed voice adult choral group–all volunteers–under the direction of Cathy Johnson. Singers hail from all over central Maryland and D.C. Enjoying community performances, encouraging soloists and small group harmonies, learning the vocal “craft,” and having fun doing it are our goals and great joys. We provide vocal education through our rehearsals and workshops. Rehearsals are held in the Ellicott City area, Thursday evenings from September through June. ShowTime Singers is a member of the Howard County Arts Council. We are proud to have been supported by grants from the Howard County Arts Council, The Maryland State Arts Council, and The Columbia Foundation.
