Breakfast and golf at Cattail Creek Country Club
Open bar and dinner at Crab Shanty
Linwood Center marked its 30th year of golf tournaments this year with a spectacular tournament on August 29th at Cattail Creek. One hundred forty golfers enjoyed an absolutely gorgeous day on the course, two days after Hurricane Irene ravaged the east coast. Record breaking attendance at the tournament strengthened our conviction that our friends throughout the community care enough about Linwood and our future to participate in this annual fundraiser. Bill Moss, Linwood’s Executive Director, announced the dedication of this year’s tournament to the late Bill King, Jr. and the late George Prassos who, in 1981 simultaneously began the first golf tournaments benefiting Linwood.
Lowell and Donna Pidel were gracious enough to sponsor a terrific buffet breakfast at the golf club, setting the tone for a magnificent day. Bill Deering sponsored the beverage cart as well as the give-aways. Joining Bill in sponsorship of the give-aways were Jack Boender (Boender Properties), Tony Fusco (Fusco Financial Associates) and Shellie Curry (Curry Architects). A heartfelt thanks goes out to Bill and Mary Ann King. They opened their restaurant, the fantastic Crab Shanty, to finish off the tournament. It was at the Crab Shanty that we spent the remainder of the afternoon drinking, dining and giving away prizes. We also thank the many sponsors whose donations made our tournament a success.
Finally, a very special acknowledgement and a heartfelt thank you goes to Booz Allen Hamilton. Through Doug Lane, Senior Vice President with Booz Allen and board member with Linwood, Booz Allen supported our golf tournament for the third consecutive year, sponsoring the drinks, dinner, give-aways and auction items. Booz Allen also sponsored many of the foursomes that played in this year’s tournament.
Linwood’s 30th annual golf tournament was put together by the Charity Golf Committee, chaired by Alex Berzins and Bob Voss. It was through their leadership that the golf committee produced a tournament as successful as this one. Linwood is indebted to Alex, Bob, Bill King, Doris Slack, Jack Boender, Leah Kable, Kim Manning, Bill Moss and all the volunteers for their tireless efforts to make this work. To date, 30 years of golf tournaments have raised in excess of a quarter million dollars for Linwood. We will post this year’s proceeds when that information becomes available.
