Golf Tournament Raises $$ for Linwood

January 6, 2012

Bill Moss, Linwood Executive Director, Bob Voss, Golf Committee Co-chair, Anne McArthur, Committee Member, Leah Kable, Committee Member and Alex Berzins, Committee Co-chair

Linwood Center’s 30th Annual Golf Tournament was a tremendous success this year, having raised $19,610 for our program. Held at Cattail Creek, we enjoyed record breaking attendance. The tournament was put together by the Charity Golf Committee, chaired by Alex Berzins and Bob Voss. It was through their leadership that the golf committee produced a tournament as successful as this one. Linwood is indebted to Alex, Bob, Bill King, Doris Slack, Jack Boender, Leah Kable, Kim Manning, Bill Moss and all the volunteers for their tireless efforts to make this work. We also wish to thank Lowell and Donna Pidel for sponsoring a terrific buffet breakfast at the golf club, setting the tone for a magnificent day. Bill Deering sponsored the beverage cart as well as the give-aways. Joining Bill in sponsorship of the give-aways were Jack Boender (Boender Properties), Tony Fusco (Fusco Financial Associates) and Shellie Curry (Curry Architects). A heartfelt thanks goes out to Bill and Mary Ann King. They opened their restaurant, the fantastic Crab Shanty (now the Shanty Grille), to finish off the tournament. Finally, a very special acknowledgement and a heartfelt thank you goes to Booz Allen Hamilton. Through Doug Lane, Senior Vice President with Booz Allen and board member with Linwood, Booz Allen supported our golf tournament for the third consecutive year, sponsoring the drinks, dinner, give-aways and auction items. Booz Allen also sponsored many of the foursomes that played in this year’s tournament. A portion of the proceeds were used to purchase Christmas gifts for the children and adults in Linwood’s programs, as well as items for the classrooms and residences.
