Your Donation Helps Create Extraordinary Lives
Linwood Center has been in the forefront of efforts to address the needs of the autism community for over 60 years.
In recent years, there has been an epidemic rise in the incidence of children born with an autism spectrum disorder. It’s now estimated that one in 68 children in the United States are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. The incidence in the state of Maryland is even higher; one in 60. Linwood provides programs and services throughout the lifespan for individuals living with autism and related developmental disabilities.
New School
To meet the growing need for our services, in August 2013, we opened the doors of our new, state-of-the-art school adjacent to our historic Manor House in Ellicott City. The 36,000 square foot building allows us to increase the number of children we serve. We provide a non-graded Special Education Program for special needs students ages 5-21.
The new building houses a best practices educational program, including dedicated areas for multi-sensory environments, computer labs, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and music. We are able to provide a wide variety of much needed inclusive educational opportunities for students from Howard County and elsewhere in the state.
Adult Services
In addition to its programs for students, Linwood Center provides adult services, including supported employment, vocational training, recreation and opportunities for volunteerism and community involvement. The Linwood Center Boutique in downtown Ellicott City provides employment and job training on-site. Linwood’s community-based residential services for adults are available in homes throughout Howard and Baltimore Counties.
You Can Help
We need both public and private resources to help the skyrocketing number of children and adults living with autism who need our services. We received local, state and federal support to build the new school, but we also need the generous help of civic, faith and other groups, businesses and individuals to operate the highest quality and most technologically advanced programs and services.
All donors of $1,000 or more annually are eligible for The Jeanne M. Simons Society. Together we can build an extraordinary future for children and adults living with autism.
