‘The Hidden Child’ book

“The Hidden Child” By Jeanne Simons

Linwood Founder Jeanne Simons’ book, The Hidden Child, takes an in-depth look at her nationally acclaimed Linwood Method.

The book describes her approach, which is based not on a predetermined plan or pace, but in response to the therapists’ understanding of the origins and meaning of each child’s behaviors. Hundreds of vignettes and anecdotes supplement the text.

Editorial Review From Library Journal

Linwood Center for children with autism was founded in 1955 by teacher and therapist Jeanne Simons. Sabine Oishi, co-author of The Hidden Child, skillfully combines Simons’ case studies, anecdotes and reminiscences with her own observations and research to produce a readable, moving account.

She provides an excellent explanation of autism, then a step-by-step analysis of the Linwood method of establishing relationships, patterning good behavior, overcoming compulsions, developing skills and fostering social and emotional development.

This valuable guidebook for teachers and therapists also has a hopeful message for parents of children with autism.
